Noel Paul Stookey
Another fabulous Blue Hill Pops!  That was the opinion of the sold-out audience on July 3 for the 25th annual Blue Hill Pops Concert, sponsored by the Bagaduce Music Lending Library. As in past years the event was held in the George Stevens Academy gymnasium in Blue Hill.
This year's festival of "Sounds Around Blue Hill" featured the renowned folksinger Noel Paul Stookey, the "Paul" of Peter, Paul and Mary.  Noel is a masterful entertainer, and he had the audience in the palm of his hands as he sang old and new songs alike.  In addition, two members of the acclaimed dance theater company Alison Chase/Performance presented a new dance work entitled "Devil Got My Woman", set to an original score composed and performed by Grammy Award-winning Maine composer and pianist Paul Sullivan.
Flash in the Pans, Maine's largest community steel drum, opened the evening with their fiery and infectious Caribbean rhythms.  The New Trad Trio entertained concert goers outside the gym with traditional jazz of the 30s and 40s and the Bagaduce Pops Singers, under the direction of Bronwyn Kortge, presented a show-stopping choral medley from the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical "Rent".  As in past years, Blue Hill Pops concluded with the ever-popular patriotic finale, featuring an audience sing-along of our nation's service songs and "America the Beautiful".  The evening was a wonderful way to kick off our nation's birthday.
A big "thank you" goes out to our corporate Sponsors for the 2015 Blue Hill Pops Concert: Bar Harbor Bank, Cape Air, Lambert Coffin Law Offices, Penn Air and Stanley Subaru.
