2017 Young Composers' Festival
The 21st Annual Young Composers' Festival will be held on Saturday, April 22 in Emlen Hall at the Bay School in Blue Hill, Maine. The festival will begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 2:30 pm. Winners of the Young Composers' Competition will be announced at the festival and prizes will be awarded in two age categories - Age 13 and Younger and Age 14 and Older. During the festival contestants will have a chance to perform their original compositions in front of a live audience, and they will also have an opportunity to review their pieces with the judges - Fred Goldrich, Beth Weimann and Dan Sonenberg.
The keynote speaker for the festival will be pianist and teacher Holly Bartlett Weinberg. Launched in 1996, the annual Young Composers' Competition and Festival encourages Maine students to create new works and develop their composing and notation skills. It also gives them valuable feedback from professional musicians and provides them with a venue where they can meet other students who share their interest in composing.
