2017 Young Composers' Competition and Festival
Attention all young musicians and music teachers! The Bagaduce Music Lending Library's 21st Annual Young Composers' Competition is now open. All students, high school age and younger living in Maine, are eligible to submit an original musical composition for prize money.
The deadline for submitting a composition is February 10, 2017.
Three expert judges will evaluate the entries and choose winners in two age categories - Age 13 and Younger and Age 14 and Older. Three students in each age category will be awarded prize money: First Place - $200, Second Place- $125 and Third Place - $75.
The 21st Annual Young Composers' Competition will conclude with a Young Composers' Festival in Blue Hill, Maine on Saturday, April 22, 2017 where the contestants will have a private session with each of the judges and will have an opportunity to perform their composition before a live audience. The winners will be announced at the Festival.
Launched in 1996, the annual Young Composers' Competition and Festival encourages Maine students to create new works and develop their composing and notation skills. It also gives them valuable feedback from professional musicians and provides them with a venue where they can meet other students who share their interest in composing.
